[The Quick Base Knowledge Base is your library of frequently-asked questions that help you better customize your apps to solve your business problems.] Quick Base users may notice small discrepancies when rounding and comparing floating point numbers. For example, Round(37.785,0.01) returns 37.78 instead of 37.79. This is not a Quick Base-specific issue; the discrepancies happen because some floating point numbers cannot be represented exactly in the binary format required by computers and are instead approximated.  Quick Base follows the  IEEE 754 Standard for Binary Floating Point Arithmetic , and stores decimal numbers, like 0.1, as "doubles" or ...

One of the most powerful aspects of Quick Base is its ability to wrap around your workflow and be customized to what matters most to your organization. For one of our customers, the data being collected, and reporting produced is critical for a greater cause: the livelihood and success of the people enrolled in their human services programs. Michael Pasquale, Director of Program Quality Improvement at the Center for Community Alternatives, has been leveraging Quick Base to make an impact in the non-profit human services sector, enhancing his organizations data management workflow and reporting capabilities. “The mission of the Center for Community Alternatives ...

File attachment fields: restrict file types Many companies use file attachment fields to store things like photos of their products or customer contracts. Wouldn’t it be nice to control what types of files users are allowed to upload? Read on to learn how you can use custom data rules to restrict which types of files are can be uploaded. What are custom data rules? Custom Data Rules allow app builders to create business logic that can be applied anytime someone adds or updates data in a Quick Base table. Whether a user is updating a few rows in Grid Edit or uploading new records from a spreadsheet, adding a Custom Data Rule allows administrators to ...

Quick Base is an immensely powerful platform. At the core, we have built a custom database that combines the traditional database and application layers. Quick Base Builders do not need to be database administrators or have coding backgrounds and we abstract out unnecessarily-complicated elements such as indexing. This leads to quicker time-to-value and the ability to build enterprise-grade ecosystems in a fraction of the time you might expect. However, no platform is perfect, and they all have tradeoffs. In software, there are three fundamental components that can be optimized for, and a fourth that impacts scale: Size : How big the database and ...

I've consistently been plugging the QuickBase Under the Hood session from Empower 2018 to builders looking to learn more about what is happening behind the scenes with Quick Base. The feedback from attendees is that they enjoyed learning about what makes Quick Base tick. With how successful it was, we have continued to expand on that content by sharing use cases, examples, and learnings in our blog and the Quick Base Community. Continuing to look for new opportunities to share that deeper insight, we thought it might be helpful to go through a thought exercise on a sample application as it relates to resource utilization. To give some background, Quick ...

One of the most powerful aspects of Quick Base is the ability to create many apps that can be deployed across the enterprise and accessed by a shared user base. The more apps you build and share, the more value you drive in the business.  Quick Base apps manage data for processes, and often that data needs to be replicated, shared, or transformed. Quick Base makes it easy to replicate, transform and share data with a wide range of tools and techniques; the only challenge is choosing the right tool for the job. In this guide we will explore the various tools Quick Base provides for moving data between apps. The aim is to make it easier for builders to decide ...

With the launch of our new community platform this past week there is a bevy of new features and functionality for you to sink your teeth into. One of the more interesting additions is the new Job Postings page. The Job Posting page can be a powerful tool for anyone looking to hire someone to work on or create Quick Base applications. Finding the right fit when hiring someone is a hard task in general but when you add in the potential complexity of Quick Base app-building it makes it significantly more difficult. As the Leader of the Quick Base Care Organization, it is a difficulty that I know all too well. How do you find the best candidates? In addition to ...

I wanted to be the first to share the exciting news that this summer we will be introducing a brand-new Community site. This update will provide the Community with a modern look and feel, and lots of improved functionality to help make it easier than ever to connect and collaborate with other members. The best part is that there is no need for a new bookmark because the Community will still be found right where it's always been at "community.quickbase.com". This is a big step for us because it allows the Community to evolve beyond simply being a place to ask and answer questions. As always, you'll be able to collaborate with other Quick Base problem-solvers, ...

In my capacity as Sr. Product Manager for Platform, I recently had the opportunity to work with our Care team on an interesting customer case, which really highlighted an idea that I'd like to share. The idea is that even when you are building complex processes spanning multiple systems, Quick Base usually has a simple native feature that can handle your need. In this particular scenario, the case was a fairly common request to help the customer find a way to integrate Quick Base with other systems in their ecosystem. At a high level, integrations like these usually work in one of two ways:  Push: Quick Base uses Webhooks which trigger on a record change ...

I heard a great analogy recently Quick Base is like a grocery store. While a grocery store might have 40,000 unique items, how many do you walk in looking for, let alone purchasing? The grocery store is responsible for serving a very wide customer base and balancing the needs of the many. Of course, you can also go to a specialty store which only has a few hundred items but is much more likely to serve a niche much deeper. As we promised in our Product Keynote at Empower2019 , we are going to carefully be rolling out improvements to modernize our user interface. During this process, we plan on gathering feedback that spans 200,000 users, 6,000 accounts ...
