  • 1.  Comparing Data In The Same Field In Two Records of Same Table

Is there a method to compare the same field in two different records in a table to end up with a calculated result in both records.

If they each have a common parent record then you should be able to summarize them.

What type of 'calculated result' are you looking for?  What is your connection between the data?  what type of data is it?  (number, date, percent)

So, we run a golf course and use QuickBase for a multitude of different applications, from managing our tee times, to event registration and event scores.

My question pertains to using Quickbase for scoring golf events, and in a typical game it works just fine, sorting lowest to highest breaking ties based on hole scores...

But, in type of event, we have to compare the same hole against the same hole for each hole, thus we were looking for a mechanism to compare field entries between different records in the table.

When you say 2 records is that because you have the same player doing two rounds?  Do these two records have the same parent? ie the Player or the "entrant" for that Tournament?

Hey Mark, how are you?  No, separate player each playing 18 Holes.

The competition is what we refer to as a Skins Competition. Regardless of how many players in the field, I want to be able to identify the player with the lowest score on each hole.

Right now we do it by generating 18 reports (one for each hole) sorting the scores for that hole from lowest to highest. (so it is tedious and takes time to collect or open each report).

I'm well, still having fun with Quick Base.

I think that there is an easy answer to Skins.  I will describe in once and you can repeat 17 more times

I assume that the setup is that 1 Skins Competition has many Players.

Make a Summary of the Minimum of the score on the field [Hole 1 score].  Let's say for example that the low score on hole 1 was a 3.

Next Make a Report Link field on the Skins Competition record.  On the left side select that summary field.  ON the right side navigate back to your app, and to the fields for the players and select [Hole 1 score].

Put that [Report Link Hole 1 field] field on the Skins Competition record and show the player records on the form.  That will be a little report of all the player(s) who git the low score of 3.

Then just repeat 17 more times by copying and adjusting that summary field and copying and adjusting that report link field.

Then  you will be able to look at the Skins Competition record and see 18 little embedded reports of who got the low score on each of the 18 holes.
